Some former participants of Scottish Crucible will be invited to contribute to the European Crucible at ESOF to share their experiences of developing collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects and networks. They are all junior lecturers or hold personal fellowships at different universities, or are equivalent researchers from research institutes or SMEs. All have competed to win a place on Scottish Crucible since it was launched in 2009 and all are aiming to become research leaders in their own fields. They come from a wide diversity of academic disciplines including science, engineering, medicine, design, humanities, arts and social and political science.
